rather nice day...

i've done nothing, really, today but watch the memorial services for mrs. king. what a woman. who else, as a reverand said during her service, besides coretta could bring four presidents, an army of the house of representatives and senate, governors, mayors, and celebrities... not to count local people and pilgrims from across the nation? she was amazing.

unfortunately, i ... i'll finish that thought in a minute.

the news is on... i'm at matt's. we're gonna have dinner in a minute.

anyway. fred phelps, the idiot from kansas, was at the funeral picketing. how dare they? ugh. he had a sign that read, 'thank god she's dead,' and his usual ' god hates fags.'

apparently we don't serve the same god.

back... i went to sleep a few hours into the funeral service before i was supposed to meet matt at the park. i woke up, called him, went to storage to get some clothes and then to the park.

it was cold so we came here to eat...

speaking of which, it's ready and i'm hungry.

won't it be nice if phelps dies and no one bothers to show up and they just cremate him and put his ashes in the dustbin where they belong. grrrrrr >:(

you know, i love america and i cherish freedom of speech. if you've ever argued with me, you also know i like to have the last word.

having said that, i don't despise phelps and his followers for what they have to say... just that what they have to say is so ridiculous.

as matt said last night, how can you include 'god' and 'hate' in one sentence.

i'm sure there are a lot of people who agree with the idiot, and i use that term very literally. but who believes them?

i certainly don't want to believe in their god. i don't want to go to the same heaven they'll inhabit with their one-sided, discriminatory beliefs.

the god i serve loves all... even if they had heard the words of president bill clinton yesterday during the service. he quoted jesus (although i'll paraphrase) as saying, be not afraid, for you have been redeemed.

i'm not afraid.

perhaps one day -- i think it's starting -- they'll get less and less media attention and less response from those who see them.

as long as we respond to their ignorance, that there will be.

but, the moment we become content with ourselves and our beliefs and notice them no more than the light poles we pass daily, they'll fade into the background just as well.

I hope you are right.

I was actually going for the poetic justice angle though. Considering how many people showed up for Mrs. Kings funeral, it would be awesome if no one showed up for his. That would kinda get the point across. Of course I still like the dustbin idea. Worthless people deserve anticlimactic endings.

marcus!! good grief. you sound like i do sometimes. i tend to have the same reaction to the "fred phelps" of the world. i do not agree with his beliefs at all but we are all God's children, even fred, and none of those are "worthless", just their actions. i relate to poetic justice but all our endings should be anti-climactic here on earth. the best memorials to me, are when the speaker says of the deceased "their funeral was already preached" by their actions and deeds while alive. since this is mathew's blog, i must commend his ideals that when we ignore teh ignorant or do not acknowledge these people, they will fade away.
this is the(sometimes annoying)but always great charcteristic that mathew embraces and makes me proud to be one of his best friends. hope all is well with you. w

for you Anonymous, since you asked, this is the type person mathew is. this is the spirit in which he embodies the legacy of coretta scott king. you may be a family member or really close to him but it is obvious you have not taken the time to get to know him very well, at least not the whole of him. as long as they are real and not anonymous, all voices should be heard. until then, they remain...unworthy.

wendell... at first i didn't get where you were coming from. but i read closer.

i agree, too, that fred phelps is not totally worthless. but i'd relate him close to a certain family i care nothing about. they're not without worth but...

i'm posting an entry about this so see that later...

and i know it can be annoying seeing my ways sometimes. but i've found it to work... if you just ignore the ignorant, they can't figure it out and keep up so they just burn themselves out.

anonymous is just a fool. what more can i say?

i'm sure someone will attend his funeral. after all, there has to be at least one undertaker and six -- or more, since he's fat -- men to carry his judgemental ass to his cave, i mean grave.
