begins with just one step. i'm paraphrasing there but i believe there is a quote that goes something like that.anyway, i write that because i took the first step to getting back into school today, which was going to ga state for a tour and information session as well as a meeting with financial aid, admissions, etc.
perhaps i shouldn't but i felt a bit embarassed. there was one transfer student there and the rest were teenagers. well, except for one other person and a few parents. here i am, twenty-six-years old and am not finished with school. barely begun, in fact.
but, instead of sitting on my ass as i have for the past few years saying i'd go back, i'm taking the necessary steps to make it happen. i know people have said that as you get older, it's harder to go back. and back them i told them they were wrong. now, i'm eating crow because they're right.
at times, i feel like i'm in the deepest, darkest hole all alone with no way out. and then there are others that i feel so inspired by the events of my life, both positive and negative. the moods change often and easily.
i'm trying, though, to be inspired, not depressed, and make it just like mrs. pat would want. just like mrs. jackson always told me i could. just like my nannie desired.
i'll keep you posted.

Is this my best friend Mathew? You should certainly not be embarrassed because you are twenty six (I thought you were twenty three, by the way)and not finished with school. While I agree you may face more difficulties in learning as you get older, we are NEVER TOO OLD to be educated. I become more learned with each passing day. Hell, I have learned so much from you, even at my age(17 years older than you)! KUDOS to you for taking this step and initiative. You can and will succeed. Look to those who have inspired you, some who are no longer here on Earth and those who are still here who love and support you in whatever way they can. Count me in that group. You are not all alone in a deep, dark hole with no way out. You are so intelligent and talented that it scares me sometime. You can do whatever you set your mind to. How well I know that. If anyone should be ashamed or embarrassed, it is those who have not encouraged, helped or supported your furthering your education in the past. If they were not able financially to do so, they could have been supportive in other ways. I am so proud we are best friends. I love you! Here's to you "GITTIN' SMARTER"!
Good for you for making the first step! Mathew I was 29 before I finished getting my degree. I always say I was on the 12 yr plan.....lol It something that no one can ever take away from you.
Remember in life if you want something you have to go get because no one will give it to you. No matter how old. Age is really irrelevant. You will achieve this goal because you want it bad enough.
Keep me posted!
mathew, If I can do this and carry a 4.0 at 36, then you can do it at 26.
I have faith in you. :) You have a strong mind. Stop looking the overall picture on this one. Just play it one class at a time, one assignment at a time, its easier to deal with smaller problems that are easily defined rather than trying to absorb it all at once.
:D
CONGRATS! :-D Now get to work kiddo ;-) Cheers!
